Colette Perrault is the Emergency Management Officer, with the Association. She is responsible for developing a program, to assure each First Nation has an up-to-date Community Emergency Plan. In order to do this, she develops appropriate education programs for community leadership and emergency responders. As the Emergency Management Officer, she promotes the concept and principles of preparedness to First Nations, thus ensuring that there is an active public awareness program.

An emergency is unplanned event, that can cause deaths or significant injuries. It can shut down your business, disrupt operation, cause physical environmental damage, or threaten the reputation or revenue. There are many examples, but these generally include:
  • Fire
  • Hazardous Materials Incident
  • Flood (or flash flood)
  • Hurricane
  • Tornado
  • Winter Storm
  • Earthquake
  • Communications failure
  • Radiological accident
  • Civil disturbance
  • Explosion

A "disaster" is a large scale emergency - even a small emergency left unmanaged may turn into a disaster.
