-2004 Fire Fighting Competition-

The Manitoba Association of Native Fire Fighters, Inc (MANFF), the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) and the Department of Indian and Northern Development (DIAND) entered into a Contribution Agreement for the delivery of Regional Fire Safety and Emergency Management programmes by MANFF.

MANFF was formed as an organization in 1991 and its membership is composed of, and directed by, Manitoba First Nation Fire Chiefs. MANFF receives direction from its member Fire Chiefs who elect the Board of Directors.

In 1994, MANFF received the mandate to continue to deliver Fire Safety and Emergency Management Program and related activities to Manitoba First Nations.

MANFF provides emergency mitigation, prepardness, response and recovery services on a 24 hours/7 days a week basis to First Nations.


           


The Manitoba Association of Native Fire Fighters, Inc (MANFF) provide an abundance of services, including:

 Fire & casualty report data collection and dispersal
 Fire prevention initiatives which include the "Wisdom of Fire" and "Learn not to Burn" programs.
 Technical and advisory resources to the First Nations' Chiefs and Councils, Tribal Councils and staff, and the First      Nations' leadership.
 Provide technical assistance to fire and emergency response groups in the community.
 Provide and/or coordinate training programmes as requested by First Nations' leadership.
 Provide emergency management services to support the efforts of the communities.
 Provide a liaison role between the communities and First Nations' organizations and agencies at levels, as well as,      service providers to/for First Nations.
 Faciliates the Annual Manitoba First Nations' Fire Fighters' Competition
 Organize the Annual MANFF Education session & Annual Meeting
 Organize the Annual First Nations' Schools' Fire Poster Contest
 Assist the Fire Chiefs with inspections, as requested.
 Provide input into the efforts of external agencies that would be of benefit to them in their activities with/for First      Nations, such as:

      • various government agencies
      • not-for-profit agencies and associations
      • businesses
      • the general public

 Provide First Nations with technical advice on activities & services, which are available to them.
 Continue to develop programmes and services that will assure that First Nations emergency related workers and      volunteers are prepared to provide their services and expertise to their communities.
 Continue to build the expertise of First Nation people to become qualified lecturers and course conductors.
 Encourage First Nations leadership and emergency works to build on their skills and knowledge to not only serve      within their respective communities but as volunteers to help others.
